Project Evaluation
I chose to focus on the 1950’s because I found the fashion
of the time as well as the actresses ascending stardom to be some of the most influential
looks/ people in the industry throughout history.
Mainly, for my research in this project, I used images from
Pinterest and from then on found the websites they were sourced from, through
Pinterest to use as my references. As for information, I preferred to gather
information that I was sure held more credibility than websites like Wikipedia.
I chose to focus on the fashion aspect of the era toward the end, due to my
interest in that specific area and he creativeness that began to develop from
that time, onward in the fashion/make up industries.
The main cultural influences within my era (based on what I
focused on) would be The Civil Rights Movement as well as various Hollywood actresses
and their movies that still hold fame today (E.g. Marilyn Monroe- Some like it
hot and Audrey Hepburn- Sunset Boulevard) As for The Civil Rights Movement, it
has clearly impacted upon how we treat each other in the 21st
century.
I have chosen to look at Andy Warhol (Pop Art), Lucienne Day
(Textiles) and Mary White (Textiles). The main art movements would most likely
have been Andy Warhol’s Pop Art as it is featured so often today in interior
design, comic book art work as well as other artists creating celebrities’
portraits in his unique style.

I have used mostly acrylic and water colour paints in my
sketchbook, as well as the occasional pencil colour sketch, cardboard cut outs
and various patterned cloth. I used the cloth specifically for the fashion
aspect, as I wanted to add unique pages for this area as opposed to being
restricted to only 2D sketches of my ideas. Also, by using a cardboard cut out
to introduce the famous movies and actresses area, it appeared more dramatic
and bold.
I have considered presenting my annotations in a more
creative way, I have incorporated them into my art work pages, instead of
continuously writing them along the back side of the pages, making them appear
less interesting.
I feel that I have handled my time management well for the
most part, but as deadline day drew closer, I had begun to pick up my pace as
opposed to the beginning where I had taken a lot of time on a tiny aspect of
the page and that one page would have taken up a few lessons. So, as the time
was running out, I created pages more focused on information, with the
occasional sketch to accompany it. I am satisfied with my pieces of art within
my sketchbook, but am not satisfied with it as a whole. I wanted to experiment
more but was not confident enough to take risks with different Medias and
methods, especially with having a deadline and numbered amount of pages within
my sketchbook. I didn’t dare waste more time or resources.
